Dr. Rakesh R. Shah, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Rakesh Shah is board certified in cardiology and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a specialist in invasive cardiology and peripheral vascular diseases. Dr. Shah is the Chairman of Clinical Research at St. Mary Medical Center. He performs numerous state-of-the-art procedures, which include coronary artery angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, and aortic stent grafting. Dr. Shah also performs a procedure called atherectomy, which opens occluded peripheral arteries by removing obstructive plaque. Additionally, he is one of a select group of physicians in the area who perform percutaneous closures of atrial septal defects. This cutting-edge procedure corrects congenital atrial septal defects, a condition that previously required open heart surgery. Dr. Shah is also specially trained in the interpretation of cardiac CT angiography.
Dr. Shah received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in internal medicine and subsequent fellowship in cardiology at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Shah has been a clinical instructor at Temple University and participates in numerous clinical research studies.
