You don’t need any special gear and we will walk on our one mile walking track which is paved and has benches throughout in case you need to rest. Just put on a pair of comfortable shoes and come walk with us. You can walk alone, with friends, or bring your family. Everyone, regardless of your ability, is welcome to join us. Plus if you walk at least 9 of our 12 walks during the year, you will receive a special gift.
Walks are rain or shine. Dress accordingly. If you are unsure if we will walk, check this website page the morning of the walk.
About Walk With a Doc
St Mary Medical Center is on a mission to make our community healthy. We know that through education, nutrition and physical activity we can affect the health of the people in our area. Our physicians decided that it was time to start a program that included these elements to change the lives of our patients and their families and friends.
According to the American Heart Association, walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. Walking is low impact and easier on the joints than running. It is safe – with a doctor’s okay – for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions, and those who are overweight. In addition, research has shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour of regular exercise!
Walk with a Doc is a 12 month walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improving your general health to live longer! While you walk at your own pace, you’ll have the opportunity to have questions answered by St Mary cardiologists.
